National Service Scheme (NSS)

The National Service Scheme, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports Govt. of India, popularly known as NSS was launched duringMahatma Gandhi’s Birth Centenary Year (1969) in 37 Universities involving 40,000 students with primary focus on the development of personality of students through community service.

Today, NSS has more than 3.2 million student volunteers on its roll spread over 298 Universities and 42 (+2) Senior Secondary Councils and Directorate of Vocational Education all over the country. From its inception, more than 3.75 crores students from Universities, Colleges and Institutions of higher learning have benefited from the NSS activities, as student volunteers

The overall objective of the National Service scheme is educational service to the community. It is a student-oriented programme in which projects are implemented by the NSS volunteers in the community in close collaboration with the clientele community and it provides vast scope for the students interaction with the people.

The National Service Scheme of CMS College of Science and Commerce is functioning with Two Units (200 undergraduate students) , along with the following NSS Programme Officers.

SWACHH BHARAT ABHIYAAN

Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan aspires to make cleanliness a public movement rather than a Government mission by engaging every citizen of India in the process. “We must not tolerate the indignity of homes without toilets and public spaces littered with garbage. For ensuring hygiene, waste management and sanitation across the nation, a “Swachh Bharat Mission” launched

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (English: Clean India Mission and abbreviated as SBA or SBM for “Swachh Bharat Mission”) is a national campaign by the Government of India, covering 4,041 statutory cities and towns, to clean the streets, roads and infrastructure of the country. This campaign aims to accomplish the vision of a ‘Clean India’ by 2 October 2019, the 150th birthday of Mahatma Gandhi.

Specific objectives

  • Eliminate open defecation by constructing toilets for households, communities
  • Eradicate manual scavenging
  • Introduce modern and scientific municipal solid waste management practices
  • Enable private sector participation in the sanitation secto
  • Change people’s attitudes to sanitation and create awareness

Coimbatore Corporation – Action Plan

Mission Swachh Bharat Coimbatore is initiated by Corporation Commissioner Dr.Vijayjarthikeyan I.A.S., in order to create sustainable solutions for Clean Coimbatore. Coimbatore Municipal Corporation (CCMC) has various plans to do across Coimbatore starting from creating awareness to attaining Clean Coimbatore district in all public areas, schools, institutions, corporates etc….

The Swachh Bharat Mission consisting around 45 Ambassadors from various fields such as Colleges, Corporate Sectors, Foundations, Media etc

  • Coimbatore City – 5 Zones (East, West, North, South and Centre)
  • Total No. of Wards – 100
  • As per the first phase of this plan, following activities will be conducted:
  • Identifying the areas of each ward where more open defecation happening
  • Creating awareness programs for usage of public toilets
  • Constructing Toilets

National Cadet Corps

The National Cadet Corps Unit of the College was launched to give flight to the dreams of students who aspired to join the Armed Forces. NCC Cadets are groomed to become disciplined, selfless, honest and loyal citizens of the country, as envisaged by the motto ‘Unity and Discipline’.

Objectives

  • To develop qualities of character, courage, comradeship, discipline, leadership, secular outlook, spirit of adventure and sportsmanship and the ideals of selfless service among the youth to make them useful citizen.
  • To create a human resource of organised trained and motivated youth to provide leadership in all walks of life including the Armed Forces and be always available for the service of the nation.

OISCA International

‘Cultivate hearts and skills to promote nature, promote earth-oriented youth’. OISCA has always believed in promoting human welfare and harmony between humanity and the natural environment. The OISCA of CMS College is functioning with 24 members along with 82 members in “Youth Forum”.

Theatre Workshop

Every year theatre workshops are conducted for 100 selected students of the college. Students are given good training in script writing, direction and acting. A team of highly talented faculty conduct the workshop every year.

Fine Arts Association

The cultural and literary activities of the college are monitored by the Fine Arts Association. Cultural competitions are conducted at the collegiate as well as intercollegiate level by the Association to hone the talents of the students. The inauguration of the Fine Arts Association was conducted on 26th September 2008

Science Club

The club aims to develop scientific spirit among students. It is instrumental in improving scientific vocabulary, logical thinking and general knowledge.

PEARL

PEARL is the campus e-mag. It is jointly sponsored by the Deccan Chronicle and CMS College of Science and Commerce. Pearl aims to develop and nurture the creative talent among the students and faculty. From September, 2009 Pearl is available in print also.

Parent Teachers Association (PTA)

In order to create a good rapport between parents and staff, the PTA was introduced in CMS College of Science and Commerce. The first meeting of the PTA was conducted in a grand manner in the year 2004 and every year the PTA meet is conducted in the even semesters. Such meetings become the venue for active interaction between the faculty and parents. Often parents come forward with constructive suggestions to improve the functioning of the college. The office bearers of the PTA have been rendering all help to create an academic atmosphere conducive for the pursuit of higher education.

Alumni Association

The Alumni Association of CMS College of Science & Commerce was established in 2000 with an aim to promote interaction and net working among the Alumni of the institution. It has been successfully carrying out its goals and objectives since its inception and has steadily risen into a full-fledged association. It has been consistently taking efforts to implement its activities and is successful in all its endeavors.

Objectives Of The Association

  • To build a strong Alumni Network amongst the Alumni Community and maintain an Alumni Database.
  • To create common interest groups and provide a platform for the interaction amongst the Alumni of the college.
  • To inform the Alumni about the ongoing and future activities.
  • To organize reunions with the help of the Alumni association.
  • To organize meetings and discussions for the improvement of education, research & entrepreneurship and present students can get useful career guidance from the Alumni.
  • To undertake any other activities that may assist the college in fulfilling its objectives.

Rules and Regulations of The Association:

  • The Association shall be named as & Alumni Association of C M S College of Science and Commerce, Coimbatore &
  • The head office of the Association shall be at C M S College of Science and Commerce, Chinnavedampatti, Coimbatore-49.
  • The Business hours of the Association shall correspond to the working hours of the College
  • Membership of the association shall be open to Students who have pursued their Under graduate or Post graduate, M.Phil or Ph.D and received/awarded degree as a regular student of the college.
  • The jurisdiction of the Association shall be throughout the world.
  • The association shall have powers to enroll members, constitute committees, sub-committees and call for periodical meetings to achieve the objectives.

CMS CSC Alumni Association benefits the alumni, the institution, and the students who currently pursue their studies in the college in many ways.

  • The Alumni association helps the Alumni connect with their batch mates and to plan event namely reunions and other social events.

  • It enables them to communicate with the faculty of their institution.
  • It facilitates them to find their college mates across the world.
  • It also provides opportunities for professional growth and social interaction.

  • It creates Brand Recognition for the institution.
  • Placements are organised with the help of the Alumni which help the present students.
  • Sharing photos and videos keeps the Alumni remember their Alma Mater with nostalgic fervor and gratitude.
  • The Alumni Association helps the college to generate additional income with the help of which the institution can help the needy students.
  • The alumni shall also serve as the ambassador of the college and shall enhance the goodwill of the institution.
  • Career guidance is given to the present students by the Alumni.
