Tamil Guest Lecture

Our college Tamil Mantram – 2017 conducted Tamil Guest Lecture Program under the guidance of Dr. S. Saravanakumar Assistant Professor (Tamil), Department of Languages on 12.9.2017 topic entitled “Moral and Ethical Thoughts in Tamil Literature” by Dr. P. V. Santha Kumar Professor in Tamil, Thavathiru Santhalinga Adigalar Arts and Science Tamil College, Perur, Coimbatore. Dr. P. V. Santha Kumar addressed the gathering after the Prayer Song, Welcome Address and Introduction to the Chief Guest. He highlighted on the human values found in the epics “Silapathikaaram”, “Kambha Ramayanam” and stories from other ethical works. The program came to an end with the National Anthem.

Personality Development Program

“Roadmap to Success & Greatness” a program conducted by Internal Quality Assurance Cell as a part of Personality Development Activities for the III UG students was held in Athena hall on 11th and 12th September 2017.The resource person of the program is Mr. Jose Thomas Director, Silvie Associates, Bangalore. Welcome address is given by Dr.V.Chitraa, IQAC co-coordinator.Presidential Address is given by the principal Dr.SandhyaMenon followed by felicitation by Mr.C.K.Venketesan, Controller of Examinations .Groups were formed by the resource person and different activities were given and students actively participated. The sessions were so informative to the students and certificates were issued for all the participants.

French Guest Lecture

Our college French Club: La Fête Française – 2017 conducted French Guest Lecture Program under the guidance of Dr. V. Shoba, Assistant Professor (English and French), Department of Languages, on 12.9.2017 on the topic “Rendez- vous avec les Français”. Dr. Jeevaratnam, Assistant Professor (SG) in French, Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women, Coimbatore, addressed the gathering after the Prayer Song, Welcome Address and Introduction to the Chief Guest. She highlighted on the people, culture, tradition, history and places of France. The program came to an end with the National Anthem.

Inauguration of the Academic Activities and Students’ Union Council.

THE NEED OF TRANSFORMATION IN EDUCATION SYSTEM - T.P. SREENIVASAN, Our higher Education System needs to be transformed and essential qualities of education system to be improved, asserted Shri. T.P. Sreenivasan, former Ambassador of India to the United Nations, Vienna, and currently Vice-Chairman and Executive Head of the Kerala State Higher Education Council formally inaugurated the academic year, 2017-18 at CMS College of Science & Commerce, Coimbatore—49. Later, T.P. Sreenivasan, installed the office bearers of the Students’ Council and said that such practices will enable the holistic development and personality of the student. The meeting was presided over by Sri. V. Chandra Kumar, Secretary, CMS Educational & Charitable Trust and other office bearers of CMS trust made the occasion graceful by their presence. Earlier the gathering was welcomed by Dr.S.Sandhya Menon, the Principal and Sri. C.K. Venkatesan, Controller of the Examinations proposed a vote of thanks

Alumni Meet

1989 - 1992 Batch Students of CMS College of Science & Commerce gathered on 29th July, 2017 for their Alumni meet aptly called Constellation. 30 students settled in various parts of the world gathered to offer their gratitude to their alma-mater and thus ‘reconnect and recharge’ themselves by planting tree saplings in the college premises. Followed by motivational interaction with the students and staff.

Academic & Administrative Audit on 30.06.2017

Internal Quality Assurance Cell has conducted Academic & Administrative Audit in the college. A team of 6 experts from various Institutions in and around Coimbatore visited and audited all the academic and administrative departments and gave valuable suggestions.

First Year Students Inaugural Function on 28.6.2017

‘Time management, Punctuality and Communication’ are the important traits for the students to shine in global market said Dr. M. Padmanabhan, the Director of Central & State Services Coaching Academy, Bharathiar University ,Coimbatore in his Chief Guest address at the welcoming of I year students (2017-2018) at CMS College of Science and Commerce on 25.06.17
        The college organized a programme for the first year students and their parents in the College Auditorium. More than 1000 students with their parents attended the program. Dr.S.Sandhya Menon, the Principal, welcomed the gathering. The programme was presided by the Chairman Sri. M.P Gopalakrishnan, CMS Educational and Charitable Trust.
        Shri. V. Chandrakumar, Secretary, Shri. P. Vijayakumar, Joint – Secretary, Shri. B. Ravikumar ,Treasurer of CMS Educational and Charitable Trust and Dr.V. Ravikumar, Principal, CMS IMS graced the occasion with their presence. .
        The programme came to an end with a vote of thanks proposed by Shri. C.K.Venkatesan, Controller of Examinations, CMS College.

28th Sub-Junior National Kabaddi Championship

28th Sub-Junior National Kabaddi Championship for Boys and Girls – 2017 was held at CMS College of Science and Commerce, Coimbatore, in association with Tamil Nadu Amateur Kabaddi Association and Coimbatore District Amateur Kabaddi Association from 13th to 16th April 2017. 27 Boys and 27 Girls’ teams from across India battled to win the coveted trophies. Day one saw teams play in the league matches to decide seeding for knock out stages. The knock out stages provided all the typical drama of the ‘beautiful game’ with several games decided by last minute points.
      In the Boys section final match against Uttar Pradesh, SAI (Sports Authority of India) won the match 49 – 20 and lift the trophy.
      In the Girls section final match against SAI (Sports Authority of India), Haryana won the match 21 – 15 and lift the trophy. The Third place was shared by Tamilnadu & Himachal Pradesh.
      The prize distribution ceremony was held on 16th April 2017. Shri. Tejavi Singh Gehlot, President, Rajasthan Kabaddi Association Shri. B.Ravikumar, Treasurer, CMS Trust & Shri. Dinesh Patel, General Secretary, AKFI and the Members of TNAKA participated in the valedictory function. The winning trophy was given to captains of SAI & Haryana by Shri. Tejavi Singh Gehlot & are among those who participated.

CODAC 2017...

CODAC 2017 the annual day function was conducted on the evening of 17th March 2017 in a befitting manner. The Distinguished chief guest Prof. Dr. C. Swaminathan, Vice Chancellar, Periyar University in his address motivated students to face the obstacles as challenges to achieve in life. He opined that parents and teachers are most influential parts of student life and he also insisted that success is not a word but it is a mantra.
Sri. M.P. Gopalakrishnan, Chairman, CMS Educational, Charitable Trust in his Presidential address said that the institution not only gives importance to the academics but also to sports and cultural passion of the students.
Dr.S.Sandhya Menon, Principal, presented the academic annual report of the year 2016-17.
The occasion was made more gracious by the presence of the office bearers of CMS Educational & Charitable trust and Principals of the sister concerns.Mr. Sharath, Student Council Chairman enlisted various celebrations organized by students Council. Earlier Dr. Ravikumar, Vice Principal welcomed the gathering. Sri. C.K. Venkatesan, COE proposed a vote of thanks and CODAC – 2017 was brought to a memorable end with the National Anthem.

Spandhanaaa 2017 ...

Spandhana 2017, the most colorful event was celebrated in CMS college of Science and Commerce. Dr. S. Sadhya Menon, Principal inaugurated this fascinating program on 14th March 2017. Dr. V. Ravikumar, Vice Principal and Sri. C.K. Venkatesan, Controller of Examinations offered their felicitations. Earlier Mr. Sharath, Students Council Chairman welcomed the gathering.

The inauguration was followed by various cultural competitions, which continued for successive three days for various years of students. The competitions include both on stage and off stage performances. The winners of both the competitions were encouraged with a cash prizes. As a note of appreciation 100% attendance holders, Best leader award, proficiency award were also given.

National Level Seminar on “Redefining Higher Education in Digital Era”

Dr. Ajith Thomas, Associate Professor, Saint GITS Institute of Management, Kottayam delivered the Inaugural Address and handled the first session on “Redefining Higher Education in Digital Era” organized by Internal Quality Assurance Cell of CMS College.
At length he spoke on how learning in a Digital Era explores ways in which technology can help higher educational institutions meet the challenges of life and work based learning.
The second session on “Changing Pedagogy using Technology” was handled by Dr. Vivek, Assistant Professor (SG), PSG Institute of Management. He dealt redesigning of curriculum in order to impart the qualitative education to the digitalized generation.
Dr. V. Chitraa, Organizing Secretary welcomed the gathering. Presidential Address given by Dr. S. Sandhya Menon, Principal followed by Vice Principal Dr.V.Ravikumar’s felicitation. Vote of thanks delivered by Mrs. Priscilla Helen Christy, Asst. Prof. School of Biological Sciences.

ONE DAY WORKSHOP ON SOCIAL MEDIA: INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY

Department of Social Work, CMS College of Science & Commerce, Coimbatore had organized a one day workshop on “Social Media: Intellectual Disability” from 10am to 4pm on 10.03.2017. Around 68 students from seven colleges participated along with the Social Work students of CMS College. Mr.Reji.K.Thomas, Counsellor, Karnataka Minority Department, Mangalore was the Resource Person. He highlighted the positives and negative influence of social media on youngsters, followed by a group activity in the afternoon session.

PLACEMENT DAY 2017

Placement Day was celebrated in CMS College of Science and Commerce to issue offer letters and to congratulate the students who got placed in various companies.

Mr.G. Ravichandran, Managing Director, Gem Motors was the Chief Guest on the occasion. The Chairman of the CMS Educational and Charitable Trust, Sri. M.P.Gopalakrishnan presided over the function and issued the offer letters.

The Chief Guest motivated the students to develop passion for profession, to maintain network with the institutions, do's and don'ts in interviews and to have vivid picture of recruiting organization. He also encouraged the students to become entrepreneurs.

Earlier the Principal, Dr. Sandhya Menon welcomed the gathering and Mr. Amarnath, Placement Officer presented the annual report. In his report, Mr. Amarnath pointed out that, among the students who opted for placement about 90% of the students were secured placements in different Companies. The Controller of Examinations Shri.C.K.Venkatesan proposed a vote of thanks.


29th ANNUAL SPORTS DAY

“Honesty, Hard work, and Dedication lead to Success”; said Arjuna Awardee Mr. Riaz Nabi Mohammed, former Indian Hockey Team Captain and Two time Olympian, in his Chief Guest Address on the 29th Annual Sports Day programme held at CMS College of Science and Commerce, Coimbatore on 4th March 2017.


 IQAC PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
 

Internal Quality Assurance Cell of CMS College of Science and Commerce organized ‘Personality Development Program’ for the first year PG students on 21st and 22nd, February 2017 in the college premises. The main motive of this program is to ensure and enhance the soft skill of the students.         Mr. Jose Thomas, Director, Silvie Associates, Coimbatore, is the resource person delivered his sessions in the topic “A Journey of Self Discovey"


 SLOW LEARNERS SPECIAL COACHING RESIDENTIAL CAMP
 

Dr. N. Arulmurugan, Chief Educational Officer, Coimbatore delivered the Valedictory address, on the ‘Special Coaching Residential Camp for Slow Learners of Government Higher secondary school students’ held at Cms College Of Science And Commerce on 31.12.2016. After focused efforts by Dr. N Arulmurugan, CEO a six day ‘Slow Learners Special Coaching Residential Camp’, a first of its kind educational program was organized for 12th standard students from 26th to 31st December 2016. Around 200 students participated and benefited out of this special coaching residential camp held at CMS College
A team of 30 government school teachers of various subjects motivated the students to engage in the learning process. Later Mr. C.K. Venkatesan, CoE, CMS College of Science and Commerce welcomed the gathering. Mrs. R. Lakshmi, Headmistress, Govt. Hr. Sec. School, Sokkampalayam,Coimbatore briefed about the activities conducted during the camp. Dr. S. Sandhya Menon, Principal, Dr. V. Ravikumar, Vice-Principal, CMS College and Mr. Sukumar, Headmaster, Govt. Hr.Sec. School, Vagarayampalayam, Coimbatore were also present to grace the occasion. Mrs.R. Subbulakshmi, Headmistress, Govt. Hr. Sec. School, Sarcar Samakulam, Coimbatore proposed a vote of thanks.
The function concluded with Vote of Thanks proposed by Dr.G.Sujatha Bai, the teacher in-charge of Fine Arts.
