About the Department

The department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at CMS College of Engineering and Technology, Coimbatore was started in the year 2009. The B.E (EEE) Program was duly approved by AICTE, New Delhi and Affiliated to Anna University, Chennai with an intake capacity of 60. The EEE department has been established with the firm commitment of developing and producing quality Electrical Engineers with high-technical knowledge and good practical basis, combined with leadership skills and decision making capabilities. The committed faculty and staff are fully geared up towards this end.

PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES

The Programme Objectives of the Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering are as follows:

To provide a strong background to the students in the core area of Electrical and Electronics Engineering so that they will be able to cater the requirements of industries.

To provide necessary training and create opportunities to the students and inculcate in them an ability to pursue higher studies and research in their area of interest.

To provide the necessary exposure to the students for them to excel in the field of Computer Science and Information Technology

Studying Electrical and Electronics Engineering will leads to potential careers in the Power sector, Robotics, Oil and Gas industry, Automotive Electronics and Bio-engineering. Career opportunities are also found in the Telecommunication industry, IT sectors, Transmission industries and small innovative private organizations.

PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES (PEOs)

1. Graduates will adapt to the changes emerging in science and technology.

2. Graduates will apply their knowledge and skills to the problems in engineering and technology and contribute to the society at large.

PROGRAM OUTCOMES

a. Apply the Mathematical knowledge and the basics of Science and Engineering to solve the problems pertaining to Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering.

b. Identify and formulate Electrical and Electronics Engineering problems from research literature and be ability to analyze the problem using first principles of Mathematics and Engineering Sciences.

c. Come out with solutions for the complex problems and to design system components or process that fulfill the particular needs taking into account public health and safety and the social, cultural and environmental issues.

d. Draw well-founded conclusions applying the knowledge acquired from research and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data and synthesis of information and to arrive at significant conclusion.

e. Form, select and apply relevant techniques, resources and Engineering and IT tools for Engineering activities like electronic prototyping, modeling and control of systems and also being conscious of the limitations.

f. Understand the role and responsibility of the Professional Electrical and Electronics Engineer and to assess societal, health, safety issues based on the reasoning received from the contextual knowledge.

g. Be aware of the impact of professional Engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts and exhibit the knowledge and the need for Sustainable Development.

h. Apply the principles of Professional Ethics to adhere to the norms of the engineering practice and to discharge ethical responsibilities.

i. Function actively and efficiently as an individual or a member/leader of different teams and multidisciplinary projects.

j. Communicate efficiently the engineering facts with a wide range of engineering community and others, to understand and prepare reports and design documents; to make effective presentations and to frame and follow instructions. k. Demonstrate the acquisition of the body of engineering knowledge and insight and Management Principles and to apply them as member / leader in teams and multidisciplinary environments.

l. Recognize the need for self and life-long learning, keeping pace with technological challenges in the broadest sense

LAB FACILITY:

Electrical Circuit Laboratory

This lab is well equipped with all basic requirements of electric circuits. The main idea is to focus on the basic principles of electrical quantities such as current, voltage, power and energy. The laboratory also aims in bringing the analysis and verification of electric circuits through hands on experience and simulation mode.

Measurements and Instrumentation Laboratory

This lab is well equipped with the design and study of various electrical measurement quantities. The main idea is to focus on measurement of analog quantities in digital as well as measuring the electrical quantities with circuits.

Control Systems Laboratory

This lab deals with the simulation and experimental study of basic principles of control system. The main idea is to focus on control system terminology applied to various field of engineering and designing those circuits and verifying it by conducting experiment.

Electrical Machines Laboratory

This lab deals with the working and study of various AC and DC Machines. This lab has more than 10 number of AC and DC Machines. The main idea is to impart the design and maintenance of AC and DC Machines by conducting experiment and applying the various control methods used in industries.

Power Electronics Laboratory

This laboratory deals with design and study of power electronic converters used in industries, how to troubleshoot them etc., The lab is well installed with latest measuring and safety tools to cater the needs of the student community.

Power System Simulation Laboratory

This laboratory is installed with latest 2013 MATLAB – 5 user license. The main idea of this lab is to analysis the design of power system and verifying it by simulation
