Right to Information Act

  RIGHT TO INFORMATION ACT
 

The Right to Information Act, 2005 (22 of 2005) has been enacted by the Parliament and has come into force from 15 June 2005. This Act provides for right to information for citizens to secure access to information under the control of public authorities.


Objective of the Right to Information Act :

The basic objective of the Right to Information Act is to empower the citizens,promote transparency and accountability in the working of the Government,and make our democracy work for the people in the real sense. Information for all gives citizens to have better knowledge about the instruments of governance and make the government more accountable to the governed.The Act is a big step towards making the citizens informed about the activities of the Government.

In pursuance of the Right to Information Act 2005, an officer has been designated as Public Information Officer (PIO) and he shall perform the duties and responsibilities as envisaged under the act without fail. Necessary steps will be made for implementation of various provisions, including proactive disclosure of certain kind of information.
